Reflexology is a complementary therapy that involves applying gentle pressure to specific points on the feet, hands, or ears. These points, often referred to as “reflex areas,” are believed to correspond with different organs and systems within the body. The practice is based on the principle that stimulating these areas can promote relaxation and support the body’s natural functions.

According to organizations such as the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health and the NHS, reflexology is primarily used to help reduce stress and improve overall well-being. While it is not considered a treatment for medical conditions, it is often used alongside conventional care as a supportive therapy.

Reflexology works mainly through its effects on the nervous system and relaxation response. Applying pressure to reflex points may help calm the body, lower stress levels, and improve circulation. This state of relaxation can support general health by reducing muscle tension, encouraging better sleep, and enhancing a sense of balance and well-being.

Some reported benefits include:

  • Reduced stress and anxiety

  • Improved relaxation and mood

  • Better sleep quality

  • Relief from tension and discomfort

Reflexology is a structured, professionally practised therapy that focuses on relaxation and stress reduction, both of which play an important role in maintaining a person’s overall well-being.
